It's time to get your art on!

“If I create from the heart, nearly everything works: if from the head, almost nothing.” ~ Marc Chagall

Ever wanted to try art and didn’t feel like you could do it?  Well, I believe we can ALL be artists.  Let’s create outside the lines and do what makes you happy; what YOU love.  I am now offering one-on-one mixed media/art journaling classes.  I can come to your house full of supplies and goodies to get your mixed media art on.  You provide the location and I will provide the supplies and lessons.  Read below to see what mixed media and art journaling are all about and what you will expect to learn.

**  Please note that I can offer to teach more than one person in your home (family, friends, etc.) but I don’t do large art parties.  I want you to learn to do what I do and to create your own style.  Something that you can hold onto and develop over time…to have a wonderful hobby that you can do to take you away from those stressful days we all have.  Art parties usually involve alcohol.  That is not something I want to be liable for at this time.

If more people are interested in what I can teach, I will offer different types of courses.  Sorry, at this time, I do not offer online video courses.

Mixed Media Art

In my mixed media class you will learn to use several types of art mediums onto various substrates using various tools for one creation.  Art mediums may include gesso, acryclics, ink, chalk and/or oil pastels, spray inks, shimmery inks, watercolors, charcoal, etc.  There will also be water soluble art mediums such as Stabillo pencils, watercolor pencils, crayons, etc.  Substrates may include canvas, watercolor paper, old vintage song papers or book paper, paper bags, cardboard, etc.  Tools can include paint brushes, stamps and other stamping textures, palette knives, paint scrapers, brayer roller, sponges, etc.  The best tool for the job are fingers!

How this will work is I will pick a theme or subject matter along with supplies to you.  We will work on that specific lesson.  You will learn how to warm up with some quick drawings, how to prep your surface, how to use each tool and art medium and how to create using your own style.

** Please note that I do not teach how to realistically draw a face or human body.  I will touch on color composition, but not go into details about the color wheel.  Basically I won’t teach you standard artistic techniques.  I believe this will inhibit your artistic instincts.  One of the points of mixed media and art journaling is to let go and be free with your art.

Art Journaling

Art journaling is not unlike mixed media in the sense that it utilizes the same art mediums, tools and principles.  The difference between just mixed media and art journaling is the composition, a possible story and it’s in a journal or notebook instead of one flat surface.  Art journal has all the benefits of mixed media art, but the added benefit is you get to tell your story.  It can be told through words or images.  The composition and story is entirely of your own making.  Studies have shown that art and journaling are therapeutic.  When you combine art with your words, that’s even better.  Art journaling is not about creating something beautiful if you do not want.  It can be ugly and angry.  It’s about expressing your emotions, thoughts, feelings onto paper through art.  It doesn’t even have to be emotional.  It can just convey a story, your hobbies and interests, anything you want.

How this will work is I will pick a prompt and with certain techniques I teach you, we will work together to create our own stories.  You will make something that is just you.  You can copy me, if you wish to get started, but in the end this is for you and about you.
